Uprights with the soul of a grand piano

The power of innovation is prevalent at Schimmel: our constructors constantly work on the adaptation of instruments to the highest demands. The best example is the development of our Konzert upright model. This concept initially puzzled the experts, as concerts are normally performed on a grand piano. Outside the concert hall, numerous pianists are forced to practise on an upright instrument. This prompted us to develop the Konzert Piano Line which is orientated towards the tonal and performance characteristics of grand pianos. Essential construction characteristics of our grand pianos such as the scaling and Triplex Scale and the construction of the soundboard and bridge are largely transferred in unchanged form to these Konzert pianos. This process has produced instruments which easily fulfil concert standards and, as a by-product, Schimmel has created a new instrument category within German piano manufacture. Distinctive characteristics of this world-wide unique concept are the graded capotaster, manufactured from solid brass, which ensures the exactly identical string length in the bi-chord bass notes, also guaranteeing a harmonically warm tone. The Triplex Scale guarantees rich tonal colours and extended speaking lengths (model series K 132 und K 125). The solid mountain spruce back post ensures high stability and strengthens the tone through its ideal mass distribution. The CAPE-optimised action (Computer Assisted Piano Engineering) also permits an almost identical repetition speed to that which is possible on a grand piano. A high-grade steel capotaster in the treble section is responsible for more brilliance and tonal strength. We employ all this complete range of specialist know-how in order to lend our concert pianos the “soul of a grand piano”.
